- Served as a technical and market expert in copyright litigations and pre-litigation consulting engagements on behalf of copyright owners, online service providers, and consumer electronics companies.
- Served as a market and technology expert in music royalty rate setting proceedings in the U.S. and Canada.
- Served as a technical expert in patent litigations and post-grant proceedings regarding technologies related to digital media, software, and computer systems in the U.S. and Europe. Experienced in prior art search, infringement/non-infringement analysis, validity/invalidity analysis, discovery request drafting, claim construction, claim charting, source code examination, and technology tutorials.
Public Policy
- For WIPO’s Committee on Intellectual Property and Development, authored the whitepaper The Global Digital Music Landscape: An Overview of Distribution, Copyright, and Rights Administration for Music in the Digital Age.
- Consulted to HADOPI, an agency within the French Ministry of Culture, on workable approaches to legislative mandates for e-book interoperability.
- Served as Special Advisor to the European Commission, Media and Information Society Directorate, in connection with its initiative on Creative Content Online in Europe’s Single Market.
- For the Business Software Alliance and Alliance for Digital Progress, helped educate legislators in the U.S. and European Union on emerging digital media technologies related to copyright.
- Testified at Federal Trade Commission hearing on consumer disclosure of digital rights management features in consumer electronics and online services.
- Testified at the National Academies Workshop on The Impact of Copyright Policy on Innovation in the Digital Era.
- Served as advisor to the Section 108 Study Group, convened by the U.S. Library of Congress to recommend updates to copyright law for libraries and archives, on e-book technology and licensing practices.
- Provided input solicited by the U.S. Copyright Office in connection with its triennial rulemaking on the anti-circumvention provision of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (Section 1201).
